Tissue parent rolls are large rolls of tissue paper that are produced by paper machines in paper mills. They are called parent rolls because they are later converted into smaller rolls of tissue products. Parent rolls can be several meters wide and weigh over 5 tons. To make them, pulp is pressed into sheets then wound into giant rolls. Tissue parent rolls are comprised of paper that has properties like softness, absorbency, and strength. They are converted to create consumer tissue products like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, facial tissue, etc. Parent rolls go through logistics and distribution before reaching converters who further process them into retail formats.
