The household paper industry added a new production capacity totaling 1.753 million tons In 2023
In 2023, the household paper industry launched new production capacities totaling 1.753 million tons per annum, encompassing 68 paper machines, including 53 domestically produced and 15 imported machines. The quarterly breakdown of new capacities is as follows: 309,000 tons in the first quarter, 501,000 tons in the second, 357,000 tons in the third, and 586,000 tons in the fourth.
The geographical distribution of these new capacities is detailed in Table 1.

- Hengan initiated production at its bases in Hunan, Hubei, Shandong, and Guangdong, introducing various types of paper machines, including TAD and similar, adding a total new capacity of 190,000 tons per annum (t/a).
- Vinda started a near-TAD paper machine project at its Longyou base in Zhejiang, with a capacity of 35,000 t/a.
- Zhongshun launched a new PMP crescent former paper machine in Tangshan, Hebei, with a capacity of 25,000 t/a.
- Libang commenced production with a new Baotuo crescent former paper machine in Xiaogan, Hubei, achieving 25,000 t/a.
- Yusen started three new PMP crescent former paper machines in Tai’an, Liaoning, totaling 90,000 t/a.
- Taisun launched eight new Light crescent former paper machines across its bases in Sichuan and Anhui, totaling 160,000 t/a.
- Lee & Man initiated production with five Baotuo, four Light, and two Kaxin crescent former paper machines in Guangxi, totaling 250,000 t/a.
- Huanlong started two new Baotuo crescent former paper machines in Meishan, Sichuan, totaling 50,000 t/a.
- Dongguan launched two new Light crescent former paper machines in Shanghai, totaling 36,000 t/a.
- Sun Paper started a new Light hand towel paper machine in Guangxi, with a capacity of 30,000 t/a.
- Asia Symbol launched five new Andritz and Kaxin crescent former paper machines in Shandong and four new Baotuo machines in Jiangxi, totaling 225,000 t/a.
- Liansheng initiated production with four new Andritz and PMP crescent former paper machines in Fujian, totaling 240,000 t/a.
The industry initially planned to introduce about 2.731 million tons per annum of modernized capacity in 2023, but only 1.753 million tons were actualized, with nearly 1 million tons postponed. Currently, the delayed projects from 2023 and those announced for 2024 and beyond total nearly 12 million tons per annum. With increasing market competition, enterprises are advised to invest cautiously.
